ANYONE KNOW OF A GLUTEN FREE BEeR IN BRITISH COLUMBIA CANADA?

September 262008

Budweiser makes a low gluten beer, Redbridge I think it is called, which my uncle, who has celiac's disease, drinks occasionally. This same beer is called "gluten free" in the UK I believe. But everyone with celiac's disease is different so I don't know it this beer would meet your needs. Here is an interesting link.

He's Aware, But he doesn't care?

September 252008

I have celiac desiese, which is actually a desiese that can be passed on through genes. It is not too severe, if you follow the gluten free diet. (No wheat, Rye, Spelt, Malt) So it means, I have a very strict diet. (I can't even drink beer when I'm older!) And this desiese stays with you the rest of your life. Everyone is 100% positive that my dad has it, which is how I got it. He says he knows, and is staying away from gluten, but I know he eats it alot. He has all the symptoms, and I tell him, "Dad, you will get really sick if you continue this!" Because my grandpa (his dad) died from it. If you don't take care of it, you can get stomac cancer. i am really concerned cuz he's my dad and I don't want anything to happen to him. But I don't think he is aware how sevre it could be, if its not taken care of. How do I get him to stop eating gluten, because I really want him to be healthy and live a long healthy life.

You can not make another person see or understand something they are not willing to see or understand.

When he gets to the point of being sick from it he will make the decision to change his ways or not.

You can not think for him.

Is white rice okay for celiac diease?

September 222008

I was just recently found out I have celiac diease. I know I have to be on a gluten free diet. Can someone please tell me what I CAN eat. I know they have stuff that actually says gluten free, but what about the stuff that doesn't say? Sure I can look on the back of every thing at the ingredients to see if it contains no gluten, but I wanna go food shopping without worrying about stuff. I'm sure you celiac's understand my point of view. Please help, name some foods that are okay to eat! with out the huge label that says gluten free!. I don't need information about the diease I know all about it. Also does anyone know any beers that are gluten free? Thanks in advance!

Sorry to break the news to you, but in order to stay completely gluten free, you are going to need to read labels. There is hidden gluten and gluten derivatives in so many different foods. If you want to prevent further damage, you need to be vigilant in terms of making sure gluten is not in your food.

Yes, rice is generally fine.

I'm not saying that gluten-free is easy, but it's not difficult. There are so many cookbooks and recipe sites that can help you make recipes that are awesome. I'm vegan and have been gluten-free (not currently) and have gluten-free friends… I make a kick-ass gluten-free, vegan cupcake!

Here is a good celiac site with food info:

And yes, there are gluten-free beers… they can be tough to find sometimes… here's a link:

Is home brewing legal where you are?

September 202008

do you brew and whats your flavour?
ever tried gluten free beer?

As of the late 1970's, home brewing beer once again became legal in the U.S. Federal law makes it legal to brew at home, but states are allowed to regulate the details. Here in Michigan, if you are 21 years old you may home brew up to 100 gallons (or 20 standard 5 gallon home brew batches) in one year. You may not sell your product, but are free to give it to others of legal drinking age.

I brew a lot. While I have brewed a large variety of beers, my personal favorites to brew are I.P.A's, stouts, porters, and fruit infused beers.

You also can make home wine with the same fermenting equipment you use to home brew beer.

No, I have not tried gluten free beer.

Has anyone ever tried the beer redbridge it's gluten free?

September 192008

Yep, got a sixer of it once. My girlfriend actually got the sixer, I usually stay away from specialty beers made by A&B. It was surprisingly tasty. I liked it better than most of their other beers because it actually had flavor and color to it. Not something I'd ever buy on my own afterwards, I'm not a celiac person, but for gluten free beer, it was actually pretty decent.
