I got genital Herpes from my husband about 19 years ago. Over the 19 years it’s gotten worse and worse. The symptoms were so debilitating that I was bed-ridden for 2 days every time I had an outbreak. The virus has gotten around every anti-viral drug out there (currently three on the market I think - Zovirax, Valtrex and …). I recently went on a gluten-free diet which helped to stop the outbreaks for about a month. Unfortunatly, they came back. The symptoms are much better - I’m not sick in bed for two days each time, but I’m having an outbreak a week right now. I’m wondering if anyone else out there has had a similar circumstance? Is there any way to help Herpes become dormant? I don’t drink, smoke or do drugs (prescription or otherwise) and I eat healthy. L-lysine doesn’t seem to help (although I only take it twice a day and not always on an empty stomach). I am also staying away from foods containing L-arginine.

Any other ideas? Thanks for your help in advance everyone.

I believe the 3rd one your looking for is Famvir. I have herpes too and L-lysine didn’t help me much either. But if your taking lysine while on medication that may have some thing to do with it. You may have to switch medications and try to boost your immune system by even just taking a multivitamine, some omega3-6-9 and some exercise. Try to write down what you were doing, or eating when you got an out break, this may help to pin point what triggers them so you can stop doing them to help prevent out breaks.
Stress can trigger out breaks but other things can trigger them as well. My triggers are chocolate, cocoa nut, carrots, wheat, dairy, and refined sugars. If I have those all the time every day then I could get an out break. When I stay away from those and keep my immune system strong I can stay out break free for months. Out breaks do get better over time.

Paul Rogers (biography):
