happy new year / gluten update

January 22009

Hey all. I’m getting an endoscopy on Monday. EEEK. good thing is i’ve been getting to eat gluten in preparation for that. I did get sick once, and have mostly just felt tired since eating it. Bleh. Oh well, you do what you gotta do, and having my favorite pizza and some brownies aint too bad either ;-) Wish me luck! Hope you all are enjoying 2009!

gluten free pizza brought ones ?

December 192008

hi there.
gluten free pizza please
start off with brought one what are they like?

Try a company called Glutafin, they do really nice pizza bases.

is it cheaper/easier to just buy gulten free mixes, or make food from scratch?

December 112008

i've seen how some websites let customers order things like pizza dough mix, brownie mix, cookie mix, bread mix, etc…. is it cheaper to do this and make the item, or is it cheaper to order all of the ingredients and make the mix myself?

This is my first time going gluten free, i'm new to this whole thing, and honestly not very happy about having to do this. but if I want my husband to feel better…. well, you know. So if you have any other tips or advice, I would really appreciate it! I have no idea how to go about switching my entire kitchen over to gluten free.
also, if you could recommend a website that sells gluten free items/mixes at a lower price, please share this information with me. we're broke college students, and need to save as much money as we can.

We order the mixes off of Amazon. They are cheaper than the stores in my town. For a basic flour mix we use Bob’s (not always the best tasting but it works with our other allergies) and fairly affordable. Since you are new to gf, you may want to buy just 1 mix at a time and decided if you like it. It did take us a while to tolerate the bean flour used in some of the mixes (but we cannot use the nut flours).

do you have to prepare for a coeliac blood test?

December 102008

if you’ve been eating normally, should you go along and get it done or should you overly eat foods that bloat you or give you diarrhoea

i.e if i eat pizza i have to run to the toilet straight after and i get terrible pains.

should i eat pizza tonight if im to get the gluten test tomorrow? or eat alot (including eating foods that bloat me)?

or would it show up anyway??

ive never tried gluten free diet yet

thanks

You don’t need to prepare or do anything special or your dr would have told you. Don’t binge on pizza if it makes you ill. Coeliac disease shows up in your blood no matter what you’ve eaten.

November 72008
