I'm looking for a good bread machine w/ a gluten program and a good price. Help?

September 192008

I dont really want to spend more then $100, but I also need a really good bread machine. Something thats easy to clean, and easy to use. I only need it to make gluten free bread so I want it to have that option on it.
I've never owned nor used a bread machine before so I need something simple, and a machine that will be easy to get the ingredients in and easy to get the bread out.
Thanks.

Hi! I cannot remember the name of the machine, but I know where u can find one that over 1 thousand ppl with Celiac Disease voted on!! GO to Yahoo Health Groups "SillyYaks". Join the group and look for a member named Joy (just make a post looking for her and her "Homer Awards" she'll know what u mean.) Or u can look in the files, it might be in there. Anyway, the Celiac's on there voted on the best and worst of Gluten free food, equipment and lifestyles. One was the bread machine. I want to say it was Sunbeam but I'm not sure. She can tell u exactly which one it was and they can tell u how they like theirs. Not all bread machines will make good gluten free bread bc the flours are denser and thicker.
Best of luck Amy

I accidentally gave my son gluten-free bread that came from a loaf that had mold on it.?

September 182008

I was making french toast for my son with rice bread. (Gluten/wheat free bread.) While he was eating, I went to put the bread away, and noticed that the back of the loaf had wispy dark mold on it. (The piece he ate didn't have any mold on it.) I can't believe I did this. I have given him some extra to drink. Will there be any effects?
Thanks to everyone who replied so far. I did call poison control, and as you guys said, he should be just fine. I'll just have to make sure to inspect the bread a little better next time. :)
There shouldn't be. I am glad you're worried because I run into too many parents that aren't, and especially in emergency medicine we see this. However, it is nothing worse than accidentally taking an antibiotic. He probably did not ingest enough to have any ill effects, and it should be out of his system in 24 hours completely, with any ill effects happening within the first 12-14 hours.

Gluten free bread?

September 172008

Can anyone recommend gluten free bread (from the UK) that doesn't have to be toasted to make it edible?
The stuff I've tried is really horrible, not too bad toasted, but you can't make a sandwich from it.
I don't have time to make my own bread, although I might try it…
No I haven't tried Asda - I don't have one near me, but if it's good I'll make a special trip. I've only tried some different ones from the Sainsbury's free from range.

i've been looking into this myself for the last couple of weeks. the website below is easily the best one i've found! you can search manufacturer products, restaurants and ingredients to determine if they are gluten free or not. its a great website and i'm glad i found it.

Is coeliac bread (gluten free bread) widely available in Tennessee? If so, where?

September 132008

Whole Foods typically has gluten-free products available. They are planning on opening a store up in Nashville, TN.

Major chain supermarkets should carry gluten-free products as well. As the bakery manager if he/she has them. If not, they might be able to order some for you or they might stock it on a daily basis upon request.
